Frequently Asked Questions

How do I import books?

Tap the "Import" button on the home screen, then select an EPUB, TXT, or PDF file from your device. You can also use the iOS/macOS Share Sheet to open files directly in Book Echo.

Why does the AI voice need an internet connection?

The online AI voice uses Microsoft Edge's neural speech synthesis service, which requires a network connection. For offline use, switch to the system voice in Settings — it works without internet.

Can I use Book Echo offline?

Yes. Reading works fully offline. For text-to-speech, switch to the system voice in Settings for offline narration. Previously cached AI voice audio also works offline.

How do I change the reading voice?

Go to Settings and select your preferred voice from the voice list. You can choose from dozens of voices across multiple languages.

How do I enable background music?

While in the reader, tap the music icon in the playback controls to choose from ambient sounds like rain, forest, or ocean waves.

The voice playback stopped or stuttered. What should I do?

This is usually caused by a temporary network issue. Book Echo will automatically retry. If it persists, check your internet connection or switch to the offline system voice.

Does Book Echo collect my data?

No. All your books, reading progress, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We don't operate any servers and don't collect any personal information. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I clear the voice cache?

Go to Settings → Clear Cache. This removes locally stored voice audio files to free up storage space.
